As the peak of the summer holiday period for 2021 begins to draw to a close, thoughts inevitably turn to winter sun and destinations for next year. If you’re like us here at Travel Republic, as soon as you’ve returned from one holiday you’ll start dreaming of the next week or two in the sun – but what will be the hotspots in 2022? Where will we all be desperate to travel to next year and why?
It’s definitely not too soon to start thinking about holidays in 2022, doing your research on locations, and looking into potential resorts. To give you a helping hand, here’s our guide to some of the hottest up and coming destinations for holidaymakers next year.
The Caribbean seems to have everlasting appeal and so while it could hardly be described as an up and coming destination as such it will still be a hot choice in 2022. The Caribbean has seen strong growth of late, driven by an increase in flights and also more affordable flight options. Destinations including the Dominican Republic and Barbados offer really attractive all inclusive options but for something slightly different and a little off the beaten track, try the small island of Barbuda, near neighbour of Antigua.
United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates has been a holiday success story that certainly won’t slow down in 2022. Increased flights from across the UK – mostly with Emirates – and increased competition between hotels makes the UAE an ever more more affordable and accessible long haul destination. It’s easier and more convenient than ever before to fly to Dubai from the UK, with Emirates hosting 18 nonstop daily flights from several major airports – including Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow and Dublin.
However, the UAE extends further than Dubai as a top-class holiday destination. As an alternative, and one of the rising stars of the holiday scene, is Ras Al Khaimah, something of a hidden gem. Expect its profile to grow in 2022.
North America & Canada
Holidays to the USA and Canada have grown in demand in the last year and towards the top of the list is New York City, a strong Travel Republic customer favourite and thriving with regular and affordable departures from most major airports. It’s an unforgettable city, with iconic attractions such as Central Park, Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge – but also 14 miles of beaches around the city.
Canada – the world’s second largest country – will also be a hotspot in 2022, whether that for a ski trip to Whistler in British Columbia or for a visit to hip city Vancouver.
Sri Lanka is an exciting destination right now. It’s been an up and coming location for a while but keeps getting stronger, benefitting from the reduced cost of airfares and an improving range, not to mention the fact that all inclusive deals are now widely available. Actually, several destinations around the Indian Ocean are ones to watch in 2022, including the Maldives and Mauritius.
In terms of value for money and luxury experience, the Far East still takes some beating and that’s why destinations such as Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore will be hugely popular again in 2022. With an abundance of modern, sophisticated hotels and resorts, combined
with highly competitive rates – flying direct or via a stop in the UAE, these destinations have never been more accessible. Your money goes a long way in these locations.
Cuba – the largest of the Caribbean islands – has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, and an virtually permanent member on any holidaymaker’s ultimate wishlist. Historically, travel has sometimes been limited to Cuba but the country is beginning to open up and has recently experienced a tourism boom. The capital of Havana is steeped in culture while Varadero is an impressive beach resort.
A short haul destination perfect for a cheeky week away or an indulgent long weekend, Lisbon has become fashionably cool over the last couple of years. It’s not new, of course – it’s the capital city of Portugal – but there is a new buzz about it, stealing some the chic limelight from the likes of Barcelona and Berlin. Certainly, it’s one of the most dynamic cities in Europe, and conveniently located by the beach.
